At Dynamic, we're building the full crypto-enabled stack, making Web3 simple and accessible for everyone. Today, we're incredibly excited to unveil Global Identities, a feature that adds to this simplicity by bringing Web3 usernames to your users. Now, as a developer, you can offer unique handles like [username].[yourdomain].eth, adding a personal and seamless touch to your end-users’ experience.

Continuing Our Commitment to a Magical Web3 Experience

Global Identities is the latest addition to our Ecosystem & Chain Wallets Initiative, a larger vision aimed at empowering developers and users with innovative tools for Web3 interaction. Following our recent Global Connectivity launch, which enables embedded wallets to connect anywhere, Global Identities elevates user experience by simplifying wallet addresses into memorable usernames.

The Evolution of Web3 Usernames

Usernames play a crucial role in making Web3 more approachable. Leading platforms like Uniswap and Coinbase have set the standard by providing their users with unique ENS (Ethereum Name Service) subdomains—uni.eth and cb.id respectively. These names have added a fun twist, while also making it easier for users to interact with apps without the hassle of long, complex wallet addresses.

In the Web2 world, the Domain Name System (DNS) revolutionized the internet by translating numeric IP addresses into human-readable domain names, making it simpler for users to navigate the web. Similarly, in Web3, ENS serves as the decentralized counterpart to DNS, mapping complex wallet addresses to simple, memorable names.

What Are Global Identities?

Global Identities empower your users with personalized, easy-to-remember wallet addresses. When users create a wallet on your Dynamic-powered site, they can choose a custom handle or username. This handle automatically becomes an ENS subdomain under your top level domain. For example, if your domain is galaxyera.eth and a user selects the handle sophon, their wallet address becomes sophon.galaxyera.eth.

How Global Identities Benefit Your Users

  • Simplified Transactions: Users can send and receive funds using their easy-to-remember ENS name instead of a long wallet address.
  • Enhanced User Experience: Personalized usernames make your platform more engaging and user-friendly.
  • Seamless Integration: The entire process happens behind the scenes, providing a quick and frictionless experience for your users.

Easy Integration for Developers

Implementing Global Identities is straightforward:

  1. Update Your ENS Resolver: Configure the resolver for your top-level ENS domain to enable subdomain generation.
  2. No Gas Fees: The process is conducted off-chain, so neither you nor your users incur gas fees.
  3. Minimal Setup: With just a few dashboard toggles and no lines of code, you can do this in either 5 minutes (faster than ordering a pizza).

Powered by ENS and Namestone

We leverage Ethereum Name Service (ENS) and collaborate with Namestone to map human-readable names to wallet addresses. ENS takes complex wallet addresses and turns them into easy-to-remember usernames, making Web3 easier to navigate. Meanwhile, Namestone works behind the scenes to resolve these names off-chain—no gas fees required!

Rolling Out Soon—Get Early Access

We are thrilled about the possibilities that Global Identities will unlock for developers and users alike. Global Identities are set to roll out soon, and we're offering early access to developers eager to enhance their platforms. If you're interested in implementing this feature ahead of the official launch, please reach out to us at hello@dynamic.xyz or join our Slack community.

Oh, and one more thing - lots more Ecosystem & Chain Wallets features are coming soon!
